It can’t be all that bad
We moved on Wednesday morning. I should say, I moved on Wednesday morning and afternoon. I learned my lesson, folks: hiring movers from Craigslist might not be the best idea. I am still flabbergasted that it took them five hours to transport a one-bedroom apartment, a block away. Bygones.
So my tiny-ass suite.
Now that we’re here and most everything that can go somewhere is somewhere, I can see exactly the type of work that it needs. And the enormous potential it has to be a charming little place. And I’m itching to get going.
But so many factors need to be taken care of first:
- I’m getting a laptop within the next month. If I have that, I can store my desktop - therefore opening up a two-by-one feet space that it’s taking up.
- The first night we were here, we got a lot of bug bites, but nothing since. I’m still waiting for more, since my neighbourhood has a horrible bedbug problem - and I self-diagnosed us with them upon seeing 15 welts on my thigh. But, if we’re in the clear in a couple of weeks and still bite free, I’ll be buying a smaller bed. That’ll open up another two-by-one feet space.
- The bathroom needs storage. I can’t wash my face without knocking my toothbrush in the sink. But I have to wait for my landlord to come back and paint the ceiling, as he said he would on Friday. [Ahem. Ya, he's not that great at follow-through.]
- I need shelves in the living room. It will open up so much more floor space and take away Isobel’s opportunity to get at all of my books (and the trinkets I’ve left packed, for now). But I have to wait to see how everything will be arranged once the desktop goes away.
- And then there’s pictures to be hung - about 24, in fact - but their location will depend on the shelving.
Everything is inter-connected and dependent on something else, which depends on someone else. Or money. The itch. Oh, the itch.
So I’ve started what I can, I’ve downgraded. And it’s not that bad!
I bought a smaller dish drainer, a swiffer, and a dish wand. How does that translate? It’took me about a third the time and space to do dishes today. Tonight, I swept and mopped my floors in less than 10 minutes - it used to take over an hour - and now they sparkle and smell fresh.
I think the new apartment’s got a lot on the old one. At least when it comes to cleaning!
